Government pledges to launch Rental Housing Scheme

The NDA government led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to solve the problems of housing in the big cities especially the migrants for jobs in different cities. This will be primarily a rental housing scheme for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and the poor population.  This will facilitate and boost the agenda of “Housing for all by 2022” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The Modi government wishes that the agenda of “Housing for All by 2022” will surely spur economic growth in the nation along with the solution of housing for the people. Although the rental housing scheme is a part of the “Housing for all” scheme but it is named separately as Sardar Patel Housing Scheme. The senior officials of the Housing ministry said that under this rental scheme ten crore of houses will be built in the next eight years for the slum dwellers and the poor population. This scheme endeavors to build a million houses by 2022.

The cost estimated would be of the range of Rs. 22.50 lakh crore which would provide housing solutions in the urban areas alone. The government proposes to partner with the private enterprises in a massive way. The Union Urban Housing Minister announced a new scheme too which would replace the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme of the government.
 
This rental scheme will be first implemented in New Delhi and other such big cities thereafter. This would take care of the temporary housing needs of the migrants of the cities. The senior officials of the ministry further noted that this scheme would advance the cause of rental housing on a large scale and pace for the urban migrants especially of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

Under this scheme an amount of Rs. 6,000 crores is being proposed as an investment and the government would provide accommodation for migrants coming to the larger cities for their livelihood. This scheme is proposed to provide housing for the economically weaker migrants for shorter period of time until they arrange their own accommodation. According to the estimates of the government the housing shortage in India stands at nearly 18.78 million and 95 percent of this shortage is in the economically weaker section and the low income group.
